How to Choose a Custom Bow Riser

How to Choose a Custom Bow RiserHaving a custom bow riser is an absolute must for bow hunters. It can make all the difference in a bowhunter's shot. Many deer hunters like to write their names on their arrowheads, just as many would like to be able to write their names onto a bow. It just so happens that many hunters are extremely good with their firearms. To them a custom bow riser is a very big asset to have on the property. When choosing a custom bow riser, you will want to consider its fit to your bow and how it can add to your shooting ability. Most of the time it will not be much of a choice as the bow might be too short or too long to accommodate the new riser. One way to determine the proper fit is to measure the circumference of the bow at the top of the arrows and the bottom.Once you have the length of the rifle barrel and the distance between the arrow shank and the rear of the riser you can get a fairly accurate value. The next thing to do is to measure the distance between the bolt catch and the front of the rear of the riser. This measurement will determine the width of the bolt catch the riser will need to fit.If you have ever been on a hunting trip, you will know that it takes quite a bit of time to put on a custom bow riser. You will need to first put on the front section and then the rear section to see if the parts fit correctly. Remember to also make sure you get a good scope that has a good scope mounts on it to see how it all fits.Make sure you take into consideration how tall you are when choosing a custom bow riser. The riser should be set up properly but it may be awkward if the shooter is shorter than average. To avoid issues with people being able to reach the back part of the bow, they need to be about six inches taller than the bows average height.Do not assume that a riser will have a bolt catch that is a certain size or has a bolt catch that is the same size. Often times the bolt catch and the riser are made differently so if you pl an on using one of these parts your only choice will be to buy a new one. It is also possible that you could need to move the bolt catch if it is in the wrong place. Many of these types of parts are sold by the inch, so make sure that you measure the dimensions of the rifle barrel before you order the riser. You will not want to end up having to order a new riser when your factory parts are not adequate. A custom bow riser is a nice piece of equipment to have but a good one will last you a long time.
